Kentucky Bluegrass
Known for its dark rich color, fine texture, cold and stress tolerance, Kentucky Bluegrass is ideal for medium to high maintenance applications. Plants spread laterally by a unique system of underground stems or rhizomes. This knitted rhizome network holds the turf together for better performance on athletic fields and sod production.

Ryegrass
Perennial Ryegrass is principally known for its quick germination and rapid establishment, giving
them the ability to crowd out weeds and competitive plants. Improved turf types have dark green,
fine textured leaf that is comparable to Kentucky Bluegrass. Wear tolerant Perennial Ryegrasss is well
adapted for home and commercial lawns, parks and athletic fields, golf course roughs and fairways as
well as some erosion control applications, these varieties will grow over a wide range of climates and
conditions, including compacted and fairly poor soils.
Elite Turf Perennial Ryegrass
These varieties in addition to quick germination provide dark green color, fine texture, extensive tillering, high endophyte levels, excellent disease resistance and tolerant to low mowing heights down to 1/2 inch.

Turf Type Tall Fescue
Turf Type Tall Fescue continues to make rapid advances in improvements. New proprietary varieties have finer leaves, darker green genetic color and reduced growing height.
The new Tall Fescue varieties have retained their wear, shade and drought-tolerant characteristics that made them originally so important. Tall Fescues require less fertilizer and water compared to Kentucky Bluegrass and Perennial Ryegrass.
Their deeper root system will allow Tall Fescue turfs to stay green longer into the summer than other cool season species. They have gained acceptance in home lawns, athletic fields, commercial applications and golf course roughs due to their lower maintenance requirements.
Elite Turf Type Varieties
These varieties are well adapted to lower fertility and lower pH conditions while providing excellent wear and disease tolerance. These varieties all have medium texture and dark green color and have shown aggressive tillering.

Fine Fescue
Fine Fescues are multiple species that are shade and drought tolerant. Their fine leaves lose less moisture in hot, sunny weather.
Chewings, Creeping Red and Hard Fescues mix well with Kentucky Bluegrass and Perennial Ryegrasses. The fine fescues also perform well as a low-maintenance monostand in areas that are hard to mow, such as reclamation sites, creek banks, steep slopes and roadsides.
The fine fescues are ideal for use as a cover crop under grapes, in orchards and Christmas tree plantings.
Chewings Fescue
Fine-leafed, upright bunch-type growth habit. The following varieties offer outstanding shade tolerance and will blend well with Kentucky Bluegrass and Perennial Ryegrass. These are also good for low-maintenance areas.

Bentgrass
Used primarily on golf courses, Bentgrasses require high-level inputs and professional turf management for continually successful stands. With proper management, Bentgrass can be used for permanent turf in most cool, transitional and warm turfgrass zones.
There are two basic types of Bentgrass: Creeping and Colonial Bentgrass. Creeping Bentgrass is preferred for golf tee boxes and greens and is able to spread by lateral stolons, which can quickly repair ball marks and divots. Its aggressive nature allows Creeping Bentgrass to compete and choke out weeds and other turfgrass species.
Colonial Bentgrass, used on tee boxes and fairways, spreads through an underground network of rhizomes to help repair major damaged areas. It is used primarily in conservation and reclamation plantings.
Premium Bentgrass
Used primarily for greens, tee boxes and fairways when close-cut tolerance and uniformity are required.
- A-1 — Exclusively for putting green use; lower growing, upright leaf with dense, uniform turf.
- A-4 — Aggressive growth habit; dark green fine texture provides a smooth, grainless putting surface.
- L-93 — Dark green, dense, aggressive turf that adapts to a wide range of mowing heights.
- T-1 — Rich green, dense, tenacious turf; aggressive against POA and quickly repairs ball marks and divots.
- Alpha — Rich green, with unparalleled ground coverage and density to quickly repair ball marks and divots.
- Penncross — Fast-growing, heat- and wear-tolerant variety with good disease resistance.
